Active Week 2025

11th Jun 2025

We had the most fantastic Active Week here in Glór na Mara! Students and teachers alike worked together (sometimes on opposing teams!!) to celebrate our first year with our Active Schools Flag.
As always, our wonderful Active Committee led the way, encouraging and motivating their fellow students (and teachers) to be active throughout the week.

On Monday the Active Committee held FUNdamental Fun and Games for junior infants to 2nd class. They asked the boys and girls to do three things while completing the challenges- Try your best, work together and have fun! The Committee were thrilled with the efforts of the younger classes.

Meanwhile, our diligent 6th classes organised teambuilding challenges for 3rd to 5th classes. It was wonderful to see the encouragement, team work and determination on display.

Our 3rd class Active Team kept all of the junior classes on their toes and moving with their Active Lines initiative.
The 5th class Active Team visited a range of classes and organised a Drop Everything And Be Active classroom challenge.
On Thursday, we held our Represent Your Club Day where the boys and girls wore jerseys or training gear to celebrate all of the clubs and activities here in Glór na Mara; from scouts, dance, soccer, GAA, athletics to soccer, swimming, Taekwondo and karate!

Lots of classes also took the opportunity to do a Buddy PE session together, old and young being active and working together.

As always, the finale of Active Week saw the ever popular Student v Teacher Games!! This year 1st and 2nd classes took on their teachers in a water relay course.
3rd and 4th classes took to the yard in a tightly contested Olympic Handball match which literally went down to the wire. It looked like penalties (and questionable refereeing!!) couldn't even separate the two sides. That is, until Mr.O'Mahoney stepped up to take the last penalty and in doing so, snatched a late late victory for the teachers.
5th class took on the teachers in dodgeball and were victorious!!
Finally it was the much anticipated Teachers v Students basketball match. 6th class provided the opposition and it was an evenly sided contest with fantastic skill on display.

Well done to all of the boys and girls who really embraced Active Week 2025. And finally, a massive thank you to the Active Committee and to all of our amazing teachers who showed such fantastic community spirit and teamwork in making Active Week 2025 such a great success . 👏
